About

Dewclaw is a uniquely intimate space for art. It first opened in November 2011, as a studio space for artist Carla Knopp. She very quickly realized that the space offered something that was missing from the Indianapolis art scene, something that she, personally, missed as well. The space provides an intimate and spectacle-free place for presenting art; a distraction-free zone where viewing art can be a rarified and singular experience.

After quite a bit of thought, and a little trepidation, Carla named the space Dewclaw. This name is open-ended and can hold many interpretations, but it is also intended to symbolize the elusive, yet profound value, of unpurposed art.

Dewclaw will invite guest artists to use the space for their own exhibitions or projects. Carla will show her own work in the space, and possibly, will organize group theme shows. Dewclaw is, um, evolving...

Located in the South Studios, at the Studios at the Complex, Dewclaw shares its home with many other artists and exhibition spaces at the Circle City Industrial Complex. This complex is home to a variety of businesses, and nineteen creative artists who specialize in everything from contemporary art, stone and bronze sculpture, couture fashion, studio furniture, glass bead work, photography, fabrication, installation art, videography, metalsmithing, jewelry and more. It's an evolving environment which offers varied art viewing experiences.

Dewclaw will be open First Fridays of each month 6-9 pm, usually with an opening reception. We will also be open Saturdays 12-4 pm. and will occasionally open for other extended hours. You can also arrange an appointment by calling Carla at 317-375-0876 or 317-270-4186.
